Lucida
2026
By Zara Sands & Sophia Marie Davison
Live music score by Josh Curtis
“Born as a choreographic & makeup/SFX collaboration between Zara Sands & Sophia Marie Davison, Lucida invites audiences into a space where the boundaries between witnessing and perceiving begin to dissolve.”
Lucida is an immersive performance that centres character-building as the art form and the creature itself as the work.
Inspired by modern pain theory, Lucida reimagines body horror through the lens of intimacy, generosity, and emotional availability. Merging performance art and contortion, the performance leans into the instability and gendered distortion of sight and of the body as a clear, simple barometer for pain and sensory experience.
Lucida includes makeup/SFX by Sophia Marie Davison, a live music score by Josh Curtis, and costume by Zara Sands.
See the video below for some clips of the live performance (full footage available privately).
Lucida was shared as a 20-minute performance at KOPPEL Collective, as part of the ‘Quiet Rituals’ duo exhibition by Alexander Tarasenko and Katya Tsareva, curated by Sophie Nowakowska. Rehearsal direction from Ronan Cardoza.
The project used resources readily available at the time, plus a small budget for flowers and a 5-minute Uber.
