“Sands, in particular is a most accomplished dancer, creating both shape and depth in her extraordinary performance.”
“seemingly boundless facility.”
Zara creates and often performs in her own artistic work. Informed by her background in contortion and driven by a desire to tease apart how the body is observed and internally experienced, her navigates dystopias, body horror, the instability of perception, and the body as a site of distortion and metamorphosis.
She takes a multidisciplinary approach to movement and world building, often through a visual lens. Her work has been programmed by venues and platforms including BFI Southbank, ICA, Royal Academy Lates, Channel 4’s Random Acts, videoclub, Modern Art Oxford, Lincoln Museum, and Birmingham International Dance Festival, among others.
