“Sands, in particular is a most accomplished dancer, creating both shape and depth in her extraordinary performance.”
“seemingly boundless facility.”
Zara creates and often performs in her own artistic work. Doing so she is known for her multidisciplinary approach to dance, movement, and worldbuilding, often through a visual lens. Informed by her background in contortion and charged by a desire to tease apart how the body is observed and internally experienced, her ideas often stem from dystopias, body horror, the instability of perception, and the body as a site of distortion and metamorphosis.
Her work has been programmed at venues and by platforms such as BFI Southbank, ICA, Royal Academy Lates, Channel 4’s Random Acts, videoclub, Modern Art Oxford, Lincoln Museum, and Birmingham International Dance Festival, among others.
